The Three Crosses
The oldest monument in the Chudcice area is a pilgrimage place called “U tri krizu” (At the Three Crosses). The place is about 3 km above the village in the forest. There used to be a chapel in the past.
In 19th century, fourteen smaller chapels were built along the path from the village up to the Three Crosses sight. There are paintings of the Last Christ’s Route before his crucifixion in each chapel. Therefore it is called 14 Stops of the Cross. All 14 paintings tell the story. There is also a wonderful spring with crystal clear water running in one of the chapels just half of the way from the village to the Three Crosses sight.
Veveři Castle
There is also another historic monument near Chudcice. It is Veveri castle. This castle was built in 13th century. With its thrilling history it is one of the most interesting places in the Brno region. There are many legends and tales connected to this castle. One of them tells that there are many escaping passages from castle
leading as far as the cathedral Porta Coeli in Predklasteri near Tisnov. It is believed that riders on horses had been able to escape through them. The castle was damaged and valuable objects were stolen by Germans during the Second World War.
The old bridge over the Svratka river just below the castle was blown up and
destroyed at the end of that sad period. You can still see the debris of the
old bridge nowadays when you look out of the sightseeing boat that cruises
on the Brno reservoir. Last year a new bridge was built in the same
location. This new bridge is meant to be used only by pedestrians and
bikers. The boats pass under the bridge. It is worth seeing.
This sight is in the middle of a beautiful forest. You can get there by boats or also by 303 bus from the Brno ZOO.
